Cheap Duolingo Super, Max and Family in 2026: What Each Plan Gets You

Duolingo has three paid tiers: Super, Max and Family. Here is what each one adds over the free app, what the SpandyUpgrades versions cost, and which one is worth it for how you study.

The free Duolingo app is good enough to start a language. It stops being good enough around the point you start making real mistakes, because each one costs a heart, and when the hearts run out the lesson ends. Duolingo's paid tiers exist mostly to remove that wall, plus the ads between lessons.

SpandyUpgrades sells three 12-month Duolingo upgrades, applied to the account you already use: Super at €35, Max at €55, and Super Family at €45. If you are looking for cheap Duolingo Super, the plans start from €35, and the upgrade keeps your streak, XP and course progress where they are. This guide covers what each tier actually adds, what your account has to look like before you order, and which one fits.

What Duolingo's paid tiers include

Duolingo's own Super page and help center describe three tiers. As of October 2026 they are:

Super Duolingo

  • Unlimited hearts, so mistakes never end a lesson early
  • No ads between lessons
  • Personalized practice, including a review of the exercises you got wrong
  • Unlimited Legendary attempts on the hardest level of each unit

Duolingo Max includes everything in Super, plus two AI features according to Duolingo's Max help article:

  • Roleplay: conversations with Duolingo's characters in set scenarios, such as ordering coffee or shopping for furniture, followed by feedback on what you wrote
  • Video Call with Lily: on-demand spoken conversation practice with one of the app's characters

Max features live in the iOS and Android apps only. On the web you get the Super benefits but not Roleplay or Video Call. They also don't cover every course. Duolingo lists Roleplay for English speakers learning French, Spanish, German, Portuguese and Italian, plus English courses for Spanish, Portuguese, Japanese, German and French speakers. Video Call covers English, French, Spanish, Italian, German and Portuguese. On a course outside those lists, Max behaves like Super.

Super Family gives Super to up to six accounts. One person is the family manager and can invite five others, who can be friends or family, anywhere, learning any language. Per Duolingo's Family Plan help page, joining or leaving a Family Plan does not touch anyone's progress or streak.

What Duolingo charges directly

Duolingo doesn't publish a price list on its website. As of October 2026 its Super page offers a one-week free trial but shows no price, which you only see in the app at checkout. Without an official figure to check against, we won't quote one.

For comparison, the SpandyUpgrades product page uses these retail reference prices for a year: €84 for Super, €168 for Max, and €120 for Super Family. Check the price your own Duolingo app shows you before deciding. It is the number you would actually pay.

The three SpandyUpgrades options

OptionPriceLengthAccountsWhat your account must be
Super€3512 months1Not in a Family Plan
Max€5512 months1Not in a Family Plan
Super Family€4512 monthsUp to 6A free account, which becomes the Family Owner

All three are upgrades to your own Duolingo account. Nobody hands you a new login, and nothing you have built up in the app moves or resets. The discount comes from regional pricing.

Super: the one most learners need

Super is €35 for the year, against a retail reference of €84, a saving of 58%. It removes hearts and ads and adds mistake review. If you do a lesson or two a day and the heart system is the thing that annoys you, Super fixes it, and you don't need anything more. Read the Super guide.

Max: Super plus speaking practice

Max costs €55 against €168 at retail. What you pay extra for is Roleplay and Video Call, both of which push you to produce the language rather than recognise it. They are only worth it if your course supports them and you study on a phone. Read the Max guide.

Super Family: Super for a household

Super Family is €45 for up to six accounts. Your account becomes the Family Owner, and you invite the other five from the Super dashboard in the app. Split six ways, it is the cheapest per-person route to Super. It is still the Super tier, though: Family members do not get Roleplay or Video Call. Read the Super Family guide.

Which one should you pick?

  • You study alone and the hearts are what stop you: Super. It covers what most daily learners actually miss on the free tier.
  • You want to speak, not just tap tiles, and your course is on the supported list: Max. Check the course list above first. On an unsupported course you would be paying Max prices for Super.
  • Two or more people in your life use Duolingo: Super Family. Even with two people it costs less per head than two Super upgrades.
  • You mostly use Duolingo in a browser: Super or Super Family. Max's extra features don't run on the web.

What your account needs before you order

The requirements are short, but they are the most common reason an order gets stuck.

  • For Super or Max: your account must not currently be in a Family Plan, whether you manage it or are a member. Leave it first.
  • For Super Family: your account must be a free account with no subscription on it. It will be set up as the Family Owner.
  • Any existing paid subscription should be cancelled and allowed to run out first. Duolingo itself won't add someone with an active paid subscription to a Family Plan until it expires.

How ordering works

  1. Choose a plan on the Duolingo page and pay by card or crypto at checkout. PayPal and direct crypto wallet payments go through a Discord ticket instead.
  2. Enter your Duolingo login email and password, plus a Discord or Telegram username so we can reach you if something needs checking.
  3. The upgrade is applied to your account. Most orders are delivered within 0–24 hours, and you can follow progress on your order page.
  4. Change your Duolingo password once the upgrade is active. It doesn't affect the subscription.

First-time buyers get 10% off. The upgrades are covered by the SpandyUpgrades warranty: if your plan stops working during the 12 months for a reason you didn't cause, open a Discord ticket with your payment ID and it gets replaced. The warranty doesn't cover a ban for breaking Duolingo's terms, changing the account's region after the upgrade, or sharing your login. More detail is on the how it works page.

Frequently asked questions

Will I lose my streak or progress?

No. Your streak, XP, leagues and course progress belong to your account, and the upgrade only changes which plan that account is on. Duolingo also says that joining, starting or leaving a Family Plan doesn't affect progress or streaks.

Can I use Max on my computer?

You can log in on the web and you'll have the Super benefits there. Roleplay and Video Call with Lily only run in the Duolingo app on iOS and Android.

Is Duolingo Max worth it over Super?

Only if two things are true: you study on your phone, and your course is one of those that supports Roleplay or Video Call. If either is false, Super gives you the same experience for less.

Do Family members get Max features?

No. The SpandyUpgrades Family option is Super Family, so all six accounts get Super. Roleplay and Video Call are not included.

Why do you need my Duolingo password?

The upgrade is applied while signed in to your account, so the login is needed once. Change the password after the plan is active. If you're uncomfortable sharing it, don't order until you can set a temporary one.

What happens after 12 months?

The subscription ends and the account goes back to free Duolingo. Your streak and progress stay. You can order another year whenever you like.
