Cheap Proton VPN in 2026: Plus and Unlimited Options Compared

Proton VPN Plus costs $83.88 a year and Proton Unlimited $119.88. We sell three ways in, from a one-device premade account to an upgrade of your own account.

Proton VPN has a usable free tier, which makes the paid plans an easy thing to put off. When you do pay, Proton's standard price is $9.99 a month for VPN Plus, or $83.88 for a 12-month plan, in US dollars as of October 2026. Proton Unlimited, which bundles the VPN with Proton Mail, Drive and Pass, is $12.99 a month or $119.88 a year.

SpandyUpgrades sells three cheap Proton VPN options, starting at €35. One is a premade Proton Unlimited account limited to a single device. The other two upgrade the Proton account you already have, either to VPN Plus or to Proton Unlimited. They differ in what you hand over, how many devices you can use, and how long the warranty runs, so read the trade-offs before picking on price.

What Proton VPN includes

Proton's plans page and server list say this, as of October 2026:

  • Free: one device at a time, servers in 10 countries, unlimited data, and the same no-logs policy as the paid plans.
  • VPN Plus: up to 10 devices at the same time and the full network. Proton's server page lists 20,799 servers in 149 countries. Plus also adds NetShield (Proton's ad, tracker and malware blocker), Secure Core servers that route traffic through a second hop, streaming support and P2P.
  • Proton Unlimited: every VPN Plus feature, also on 10 devices, plus Mail Plus, Pass Plus, Drive Plus and Proton Calendar, with 500 GB of total storage.

On logging, Proton states it doesn't track your IP address, location, communications or the websites you visit. It also says its no-logs policy has passed a fifth consecutive annual third-party audit, carried out by Securitum, in a post last updated in June 2026.

A VPN hides your IP address from the sites you visit and encrypts traffic between you and the server. It doesn't make you anonymous. The accounts you sign in to still know who you are. Proton doesn't claim otherwise and nor do we.

What Proton charges directly

Proton's standard prices, which are the same figures in US dollars, euros and Swiss francs, as of October 2026:

PlanMonthly12 months24 monthsDevices
Proton FreeFreeFreeFree1
VPN Plus$9.99$83.88$119.7610
Proton Unlimited$12.99$119.88$191.7610

Proton's pricing page often applies an introductory discount to the first term for new subscribers, so the figure you see at checkout can be lower for year one. The table shows the standard price that applies otherwise.

The retail figures on our product page are twelve months at Proton's monthly rate. That is the right comparison if you pay monthly, but it overstates the saving against Proton's own yearly plan. We give both numbers below.

Unlimited premade: cheapest, one device only

This is a ready-made Proton account on the Unlimited plan for 12 months, at €35. The limit is in the name: it is for one device. Proton Unlimited normally covers ten, but this account is sold for use on a single phone or computer. If you only need a VPN on one laptop, it is the cheapest way to get Proton's paid network. If you need it on a phone and a laptop, it is the wrong product. Read the premade guide.

VPN Plus upgrade: your account, ten devices

We upgrade your existing Proton account to VPN Plus for 12 months, at €53. Proton's own 12-month VPN Plus plan is $83.88. You keep your account and its settings, and you get Proton's full ten-device allowance. You do need to give us your Proton email and password for the upgrade. Read the VPN Plus guide.

Unlimited upgrade: the whole Proton bundle on your account

The same process, but to Proton Unlimited, at €90 against Proton's $119.88 for a year. Since it is your own account, the 500 GB of storage, Mail Plus, Pass Plus and Drive Plus are yours to use with no ownership caveat. Read the Unlimited upgrade guide.

Which one should you pick?

  • You need a VPN on exactly one device and want the lowest price: the premade Unlimited account.
  • You want the VPN everywhere, on your own account: the VPN Plus upgrade. Ten devices covers most households.
  • You already use Proton Mail or Drive, or want a private email and password manager as well as the VPN: the Unlimited upgrade. It costs more, but replaces several subscriptions at once.
  • You would rather not share a password: the premade account is the only option that doesn't need one.

The upgrade options also carry a much longer warranty, 360 days, against 90 days on the premade account.

How ordering works

  1. Choose a plan on the Proton VPN page and pay by card or crypto. PayPal and direct crypto wallet payments are handled through a Discord ticket.
  2. For the premade plan, enter your Discord or Telegram username. For either upgrade, also enter your Proton account email and password.
  3. Most orders are delivered within 0–24 hours. Your order page shows progress.
  4. Premade: sign in with the details you receive. Upgrade: sign in to your own account as usual, and change your password once the plan shows as active.
  5. If something stops working during the warranty for a reason you didn't cause, open a Discord ticket with your payment ID.

The warranty doesn't cover bans for breaking Proton's terms, changes you make to the account's region after an upgrade, or shared login details. First-time buyers get 10% off.

Frequently asked questions

What does "1 device only" mean on the premade plan?

It means the account is sold for use on a single device. Pick the phone or computer you want to protect and use it there. If you need more than one device, one of the upgrade plans gives you Proton's normal ten.

Do I lose anything when you upgrade my existing account?

No. The upgrade changes the plan on your account. Your settings, and any Proton Mail or Drive data you already have, stay where they are.

Why do the upgrades need my password?

The upgrade is applied while signed in to your account. Change your password once the new plan shows as active. It doesn't affect the subscription.

Is Proton VPN's no-logs claim audited?

Proton says its no-logs policy passed a fifth consecutive annual external audit by Securitum. That is Proton's published audit record. It covers Proton's logging, not what you do while signed in to other services.

Is the warranty the same on every plan?

No. The premade account has a 90-day warranty. Both upgrade plans have a 360-day warranty. In either case a claim goes through Discord with your payment ID.

Does Proton VPN work for streaming?

Proton lists streaming support on VPN Plus and Unlimited. Which services and catalogues work through any VPN is decided by the streaming service and changes over time, so we can't promise a specific one.
